Performance of rubber mortars containing silica coated rubber

This paper investigates the influence of silica coated rubber on performance mortars. A classical Stöber sol-gel method is applied to produce a layer coating particles, which used partially replace fine aggregates in concrete. The effects surface-modified particles flowability, mechanical strength, capillary water absorption rate, and microstructure mortars are examined. results show that reduces contact angle between from 120° 103° (i.e., by 17°) changes hydrophobic properties strong hydrophobicity weak hydrophobicity. strengths significantly improved incorporation i.e., 41.60% 44.86% (compressive strength) 7.80% 26.28% (flexural strength). In addition, surface modified increases density mortar’s enhances interfaces with its surrounding pastes.
